 What I Do

At Sea
Sue's Africa

I have been working as a Merchant Marine Capt. and Marine Pilot for over 30 years, as did my father, and his father before him.

The sea has provided for my family for three generations and to this day continues to support us.

After having served in the Marine Corps during the 60's, I met my wife Sue Anne, who has been a nurse for as long as I have been going to sea.  We have been married for 32 years and are still going strong.

This year I was very fortunate to be in New York Harbor for Operation Sail 2000. These picture were taken on a fogy day with a Telephoto lens.  Flood current and a South East breeze makes for fog in this region.

Click on the pictures below to see them in full size, enjoy.

The suspension bridge the you see in the distance is the Verrazano Narrows.  If you are young and bored, you will cease to be after passing under it for a voyage of thirty to forty days in the teeth of a gale.

I am sorry but I do not know the name of these vessels

I have taken this vessel to every port from East Port ME to South America

This is an older picture from inside of the wheelhouse.

The white nylon hawser you see laying on the fantail runs to the bow of the barge in back.

I towing the same barge on a short hawser South on the Hudson River.

This is the most recent vessel that I served on.  Adriatic Sea  Adriatic in pushing gear behind a 135,000 barrel barge. Bridgeport, Ct. M/V Eastern Sun, I've sail Captain on her many times. Another gateway to adventure, the Brooklyn Bridge.
Two Captsandeng.jpg (334354 bytes) To the right is a picture of my ship mates.  I'm second from your left in the plaid and blue shirts.  I was out for 21 days so I look a little rough.  It's almost 17:30 by the clock and these guys already finished chow.
